In Between: Mind Body Connection with Willote Sol

In this episode of In Between, hosts Brontë Cook and Daniela Rivero interview artist and activist Dr. Juan Gallego, who calls in from his home in Spain. Last year, Gallego and his brother Javier published a graphic novel titled "Como si Nunca," which explores the immigration tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea. The hosts speak with Gallego about using graphic novels as a form of activism, his relationship with the European immigration crisis and the ways we can better educate ourselves on humanitarian issues, both in Europe and in the U.S.

Halloween came and went — but people are still talking about witches. Feminist and womanist movements have popularized a lot of things, including witchcraft. This is a concept that a lot of women identify with because of how empowering it is. But, what are its roots? In this episode, hosts Daniela Rivero and Brontë Cook talk to Aliya Brathwaite and Avery Santiago — two Ithaca College students, self-identified brujas and practicers of Santeria (an afro-carribean religion with roots in mysticism.) The hosts and their guests discuss Santeria as an afro-carribean religion, misconceptions about the practice and how it has influenced their respective identities.

Throughout the episode, the three discuss the basics of herbalism, some common misconceptions and the crucial role that plants play in our day to day lives.

In Between Bonus: A Bicycle Country Discussion

In this special bonus episode of In Between, Dani and Brontë interview Alisar Awwad and Sara Gutierrez, the director and lead of Ithaca College's production of A Bicycle Country. A Bicycle Country follows the lives of three Cuban immigrants, and is the first ever all-POC production at IC. Sara and Alisar speak to the In Between hosts about being in an all-POC cast, their experience sharing forgotten stories and the need for empathy and humanity in our turbulent world.
